My step father shared this gem with me last year. In his own words… ENJOY!
The event took place many years ago when I was a young man. During the time when, in this part of the country, side-shows traveled around and would set-up in any available vacant lot to carry on its activities. This particular show had an attraction whereby a $100 prize was offered to anyone who could stay in the ring (actually a steel cage) for three minutes. Given the make-up of the patrons and the amount of beer consumed by those in attendance a brave soul soon stepped forward. The two combatants entered the “ring” along with a handler who had the monkey on a leash. This should have been a dead give away..but nevertheless the match began. It started off with the monkey letting out a scream the froze the challenger in fear. The monkey then bounced off the bars of the cage and soon thereafter landed the only blow delivered in the event. The results were a swollen right eye and the knowledge that a monkey is truly about 20 times stronger that a man. —
