I read the article in Billboard where Trent Reznor says he’s thinking about using the marketing model that Radiohead launched. $5 per CD. It makes perfect sense.
Now, with internet distribution we can charge $5 - $7 per CD because there’s no need for a retailer or distributor. That works our to about .50 cents per song on a 10 song CD. Though, using Snocap, etc MP3 hosting (distribution) costing around 20 to 40 cents it’s still hard to get the MP3 down to 50 cents. But, we can definitely price MP3’s for around 60 - 75 cents.
This looks like a new marketing model and we intend on operating this way…. seems like it benefits fans and artists… as well as indie record labels.
