About

This blog was created to give a glimpse into the various and sundry spectacular shenanigans of the community of musicians/supporters of Slingshot Records, LLC.

Or is that “hakuna-matada?” Anyway, what ever happen to that Volkswagon ad campaign? Which ever ad agency came up that sales pitch should’ve been paid double for getting Volkswagen to buy it. Or… should they only have been paid 1/2 because the public didn’t latch on to that word as a catch phrase?

I like watching other’s GRAND mistakes play out in public sometimes. Not because I relish others failures, but because the mistakes make me feel like it’s OK to be human. So much of the media (Hollywood, news , sports, politics-can you say “audience plant”, etc) are SO calculated that the humanity is sort of robbed/void.

That’s why I think I liked the rawer rock records growing up. Where certain bands like say, Boston (which I enjoyed, too) sounded flawless… there was an element of excitement missing. On early Van Halen/Aerosmith records the bands often sounded like they were about to fall apart… like an beat up jalopy car speeding down a race track… would it fall apart before it crossed the finish line? (I think that’s a Roth quote)… it made for exciting listening. I’m not hearing much of that excitement in new bands… some (Jet maybe, or what little I’ve heard of Nickleback). It’s even rarer in Christian rock. Now who’s making that exciting “jalopy rock?” Hey, did I just coin a new phrase… doubt it’ll catch on any better than “Farfignewgen.”
